BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The City of Bismarck’s Public Works Service Operations Department is seeking input from city residents on their garbage collection process.

While the city has used multipack garbage trucks (which have both a rear-loading and side-arm loading mechanism) for some time, the manufacturers of these vehicles have stopped constructing them — which may force Bismarck to use trucks with side-loading arms instead. This transition affects the city’s policy on the free collection of items placed beside garbage cans among other things, making it even more important for Bismarck to discover what its residents deem important.

As part of this process, the department will be conducting an online survey that covers many aspects of their garbage collection. The seven-question survey can be found here , and closes at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 16.

“We value the input of our residents as we consider a way forward with this transition,” said Public Works Service Operations Director Steve Salwei. “Our citizens’ feedback will guide us to making decisions that best serve everyone’s needs and wants. But for us to try to meet those needs and wants, we need input from the community.”
