Michael Fagerland wins Govs’ Brad Hetland Award

BISMARCK N.D.– Another legion baseball season has come and gone, but before we close the door on the summer, the Bismarck Govs announced this year’s recipient of the Brad Hetland Award.

The award is given to one player from the Govs each season who displays good leadership qualities, and hard work. With players and coaches voting on the recipient. This year’s winner is Michael Fagerland, who says he’s honored by the special recognition amongst the incredible group of guys he played with this season.

“It’s an honor for sure, because the team this year, we had a bunch of guys that all came together and nobody was a cancer on the team,” Fagerland said. “It was it was just every game we went out and played as hard as we could and encouraged each other and it was awesome. So getting a vote from those guys, as being their like role model or someone they look up to on the team is, it’s huge. It’s it’s truly an honor to get that.”

Michael’s older brother Cannan paved the way for him, as Cannan took home the Brad Hetland award in 2019. Michael says he modeled a lot of his game after his older brother.

“He’s always been a role model of mine looking up to him since I was really little. So when he went out, won it, had some great years with the Govs and my mom always preaches, you got to be a good teammate first,” Michael Fagerland said. “And that’s really what’s most important. Doesn’t matter how good you are. People say all the time, my swing is just like his was and look modeled everything I do after him. I’ve always been a little faster than he was, so that’s helping me out a little bit.”
