MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — This week, school bus seats will be filling up with something other than kids.

The Sunrise Rotary Club is hosting its annual Fill The Bus Drive to help kids have a successful school year. Last year, they collected enough school supplies for around 220 students — but this year, they are aiming even higher.

“We are hoping to get 250,” says Rotary Club Board Member Ryan Pederson, “but with how much support we’ve gotten from the community and service clubs everywhere, I think we will go above that.”

Binders, notebooks, glue sticks, folders, pencils, crayons, and markers, are just some of the items they’re looking for. This year, they are filling the bus at Corbett Field, making it easier for people to use their zoo passes after they are done donating.

People in the giving spirit can stop by Corbett Field on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. to drop off school supplies. And while you’re there…

“We are going to have face painting and a bouncy house,” Pederson adds. “We’ll have food, and pretty much everything. So come here have a great time, bring some school supplies,” said Pederson.

This year, they’re hoping to get up to ten thousand dollars in donations — which they say will go right back into getting more school supplies.

“We’ll make sure they will have all the supplies they need,” Pederson concludes, “so they are never short a pencil or highlighters, notebooks — anything really, or a backpack. They will have everything they need so they can just go to school.”

It’s not just the Sunrise Rotary Club making this all happen. The Minot Salvation Army then delivers the supplies to families in need.

The Fill the Bus event takes place Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. You can donate to the bin at Roosevelt Park Zoo during regular business hours.
