MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — National Aviation Day is going to be celebrated a bit early in our area.

National Aviation Day is Monday, August 19, but the Dakota Territory Air Museum will be celebrating Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at the Dakota Territory Air Museum.

The museum will be showing off some vintage aircrafts, including a bright red, 1931 WACO QCF 2, as well as an all-aluminum finish Globe GC-1B Swift.

Free flights will be offered, but you have to sign up as space is limited to 24 flights.

The museum director hopes this event will draw more attention to what they have to offer visitors from all over.

“There is a lot of folks that don’t know we are up here and I really hope that more of our community can come out the museum and enjoy what we have,” said Jenna Grindberg, the Museum Director at Dakota Territory Air Museum.

The 1943 P47 Thunderbolt is the only one in the world that is flying right now and they have it.

Plane rides will still happen as long as the weather allows. Riders must sign a waiver before riding.
