MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — It was all about jamming today at the Dykshoorn Park in Mandan.

This afternoon marked the first-ever Mandan Jam, a three-hour live jam session where local artists get to enjoy the sweet sounds of classic songs.

“Most places, you go to a conference or convention, and you meet people that are like-minded,” says local musician Debi Rogers. “They don’t have that in the music world. You just go to a jam session and then you meet people. And you can learn from them.”

Welcoming musicians of all age and skill levels, the Mandan Jam brought a celebration of music, community, and collaboration.

Hosted by the Musician’s Association and Mandan Progress Organization, musicians who attended received sheet music to play a short five-song set list. Playing such classics as “Shenandoah” and “Home on the Range,” musicians jammed with acoustic instruments and joined voices for an experience unlike any other.

But the event was also for a good cause — with attendees being able to donate to the park to get local music and musicans going.

“You can learn new songs,” says Rogers. “You can get your confidence going. And it’s just a wonderful, wonderful experience.”

Musicians who took part in the Mandan Jam hope they’ll be able to take part in the event again next year.
