LINCOLN, ND ( KXNET ) — Kids and teachers in the capital city are heading back to class this week, and a new expansion project has finished with time to spare.

Workers have wrapped up a nearly $7.5 million expansion of Lincoln Elementary. The school’s enrollment has grown, and for several years, many teachers have been teaching in portable classrooms.

The new expansion has added another kitchen, a multi-purpose room, new classrooms, and space for pre-kindergarten kids.

“We will not be using the modular classrooms for classroom use,” stated Bismarck Public Schools Business and Operations Director Darin Scherr. “They’re not going to be moved out for a year. We thought, “Just wait and see, make sure everything gets done” — kind of like an insurance policy. Maybe we’ll do some after-school programming in that space.”

School for Bismarck kids will resume on Wednesday, August 21.
