MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — People were honoring a man who touched many lives and had a lasting impact on one local community.

Family and friends sent off Gerald “Ole” Olson, owner of Ole Olson’s Towing and Recovery, in style in Minot.

People from multiple organizations and law enforcement agencies took part in his funeral procession, taking him to his final resting place, Rosehill Memorial Park.

He is a big deal in the towing industry and in 2009, he was inducted into the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame.

“Oh, it was amazing, so in the towing industry, it is kind of a great honor to have a huge tow truck procession. We wanted to give Ole a big send off. I am glad so many people showed up, it was really awesome,” said Dusty Olson, son of Ole.

People close to Ole say, he was a humble man who did not want the spotlight shining on him, and that he was a man who liked to prove people wrong.

He was also an advocate for law enforcement, donating cars to police departments to help with training.

Olson knew his dad was a big deal, but says hearing and seeing the outpouring support, was the perfect way to honor his memory.

“Ole was just one of those guys, a true friend. I mean, his word was gold. That’s what he meant to a lot of people. If you knew ole Olson, you had a friend for life,” said Lindsay Lawson, a friend of Ole.

Ole was born in 1952 and passed away August 12 this year.

A few weeks ago, Ole found out he had brain cancer and was given only a few months to live. Then, he suffered a brain bleed and passed away one week later, says Dusty Olson.

One of Dusty’s favorite memories of his father is going in the truck, helping his dad with wrecks, and seeing his dad always do what he loved.
