MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — The Souris Valley Animal Shelter has suspended accepting all animals, effective immediately.

The reason: A financial crisis, which may prompt the shelter to ultimately close.

According to shelter Executive Director Laura Garcia, “Despite significant improvements in 2024, organization savings are depleted, threatening our stability and future. The immediate fundraising need is to raise $50,000 to maintain short-term operations and to raise an additional $250,000 to maintain operations through the end of the year.”

The immediate suspension of all intakes for animal adoption and emergency housing programs will help reduce staff, veterinary and supply costs for now, said Garcia.

Donations can be made online at www.svaspets.com , on their Facebook page , or at the shelter.

The Souris Valley Animal Shelter was founded in Minot in 1978 and, over the span of 46 years, has helped over 35,000 animals through adoptions, medical services, microchipping and legal cases.
