BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Today is International Dog Day, and what better time is there to spoil your furry friend? I think it’s safe to say everyone spoils their pets sometimes, whether it’s by giving them special treats, or going out of your way to do an activity that they love doing.
In fact, according to Forbes, 22.2% of dog owners in the country have spent more money on Christmas gifts for their dogs than they have for their friends and family.
But which states spoil their dogs the most? And where does North Dakota rank?
Forbes conducted a nationwide survey of dog owners to figure out which states go out of their way to spoil their furry pals the most. Questions like how much owners spend on their dog’s health, how often they buy them clothes and accessories, and how often they take family photos with them, were asked to determine how much people in each state spoil their dog.
Florida topped the list, with 66.5% of people in the Sunshine State spending more money on their dog’s health and grooming than their own.
Florida was in the top three in most of Forbes’ metrics, such as throwing their dogs a birthday party or putting perfume or cologne on them.
Sarah and Jeff introduce us to their dogs on National Dog Day West coast states like Alaska, California and Washington also ranked highly in terms of spoiling their pooches, while Oklahoma has the least spoiled dogs. Only 38% of people from The Sooner State said they spend more money on their dog’s health and grooming than they do on their own.
North Dakota ranked 13th on the list and has the third most spoiled dogs in the Midwest, behind Colorado and Illinois. 44.5% of dog owners in North Dakota say they spend more money on their dog’s health and grooming, and 34% admitted to regularly throwing celebrations for them.
So North Dakotans are just outside the top 10 in spoiling their dogs. Is this the year they’ll step up their game, or will they take a more tame approach now?
If you own a dog, the fate of the state is in your hands.
