NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — Governor Doug Burgum proclaimed September as National Recovery Month, and the Health and Human Services (HHS) Behavioral Health Division wants to raise awareness about programs and services that are supportive.

Along with raising awareness, HHS also wants to celebrate those in recovery and recognize those who provide prevention, treatment, and recovery support services that make recovery possible.

“As we celebrate National Recovery Month,” stated First Lady Kathryn Burgum, “I am reminded of the incredible strength and resilience shown by those in recovery, as well as the unwavering dedication of the individuals who support them every step of the way. Recovery is not just a personal journey; it’s a community effort that touches the lives of families, friends, and neighbors across North Dakota. This month, let us all come together to raise awareness, offer support, and ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need to achieve lasting recovery.”

Recovery Reinvented, the First Lady’s key initiative, is a movement designed to end the shame and stigma that surrounds addiction.

National Recovery Month is a chance for people to learn about resources, take the first step toward recovery, celebrate recovery, recognize health providers, and participate in Recovery Rocks — an initiative to paint rocks and create recovery rock gardens to reinforce the concept that recovery matters.

“There are many different pathways to recovery,” said the HHS Manager of Addiction Treatment and Recovery Program and Policy, Lacresha Graham. “It’s important that our state and communities offer support for each person’s individual path to wellness.”

Some key programs and services include:

    • Community Connect
    • SUD Voucher Program
    • North Dakota Brain Injury Network
    • GamblerND
    • Help is Only Three Numbers Away — 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
    • Recovery Talk — call (701) 291-7901
