BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol will continue to conduct sobriety checkpoints in various locations over the next couple of weeks.

Tomorrow, Aug. 29, they are planning one in Cass County, in conjunction with the NDSU Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Fargo Police Department. Essentia Health will also participate to inform people of the dangers of driving under the influence.

Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7, the NDHP, along with the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, is planning to conduct saturation patrols throughout Grand Forks County. They will also hold a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location Sept. 7.

“Impaired driving is a serious problem that puts all roadway users at risk,” said NDHP Northeast Regional Sgt. Matthew Johnson. “Our goal is to ensure that everyone can safely come together and enjoy community events such as weekend college football games. We will plan these enforcement events to encourage responsible choices and deter impaired driving.”

Through Aug. 22, there have been 57 fatalities in car accidents in North Dakota, nine of which involved alcohol.

The NDHP reminds all motorists, bicyclists and OHV drivers to share the road, as well as to wear a seatbelt, not drive distracted and only get behind the wheel if sober.
