WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — During the early morning of Thursday, August 29, an intoxicated driver damaged some headstones in Riverview Cemetery.

Officers from the Williston Police Department received a call around 2:20 a.m. about an intoxicated driver in the area of 10th Avenue West and 11th Street West, where a 19-year-old man hit a parked vehicle and fled the scene.

This caused a pursuit by law enforcement, which led into Riverview Cemetery where the damage was done.

Due to the man’s injuries, he was brought to the hospital for medical care and was transferred out of Williston for additional treatment.

Williston PD is investigating the incident. They are also seeking to identify the victims whose loved ones’ grave sites were damaged.

If you have family members laid to rest at Riverview and believe their gravesite may have been affected, you are asked to reach out to the Williston Police Department.

Officers are committed to making sure justice is served, and they extend their deepest sympathies to those who are affected by the damage.
