NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — It appears that the youngest generation of kids are seemingly more disrespectful, or are they?

Lauren Brown West-Rosenthal, who is Gen X and an expert at Parents.com, thinks that her antics as a child are coming back to haunt her — and it’s through her nine-year-old Gen Alpha daughter.

The mom admits that her daughter has often shown signs of disrespect, like talking back.

Gen Alpha, kids born between 2010 and 2025, have been given the stereotype of being disrespectful.

While the communication dynamic isn’t ideal, West-Rosenthal thinks that the generation is more misunderstood rather than disrespectful.

“They’ve come across as fearless and willing to challenge the status quo. But is that tenacity born out of disrespect — or is it something deeper?” questioned West-Rosenthal.

The changing social aspects, instead of a generational trait, could be the reason why Gen Alpha appears to be more disrespectful than preceding generations, claimed Founder and Director of Nobile Psychology, Catherine Nobil, PsyD .

“Gen Alpha has grown up in a time when global issues are highly visible, multiple viewpoints are frequently aired, and digital tools allow them to express opinions from an early age,” explained Dr. Nobile.

This young generation has the ability and the resources to vocalize their views, and their increased knowledge encourages them to speak up against traditional practices — even if that opposes their adult views.
