MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Rev your engines and get ready to have some fun!

That’s what many people will be doing at the largest Motor Sports Festival in the upper Midwest.

Starting Friday and ending Sunday, the North Dakota State Fairgrounds is hosting Motor Magic at the State Fair Center, with dirt track auto and drag racing in the grandstands all weekend long.

Organizers of Motor Magic say that folks coming to the event this weekend will have a lot of things to see and do.

“There’s really four major events with the NoDak Race Club, and the drag strip, and the classic car show with Dakota Cruisers, and this classic car auction,” said George Masters, the former owner of Masters Car Auction.

With just under 500 bidder numbers for the classic car auction alone, attendance for the Motor Magic is expected to be high, and that’s why event organizers say having kid-friendly activities is a must.

“We have a model car contest where they either build or their parents help them build models where they will be judged and we have nice awards for those, and then there’s the valve cover racing which they have a ramp and two valve covers and then elimination and one winner and it goes on to the next class but we have four nice trophies or plaques for kids,” said Masters.

For those planning on attending the car auction, which starts Sunday at 11 o’clock, you’ll see some local businesses getting in on the fun.

“Businesses in Minot have bought pedal cars and have had them painted up with their logo on it and then at 11, we will sell the pedal cars and all the proceeds will go to the Minot Discovery Center,” said Masters.

The staff of the Masters Car Auction says that not one car auction ever looks the same as the ones before, and there’s always something to see.

“From golf carts to rat rods to muscle cars to your kind of cruising with your loved one down the highway sort of vehicles,” said Ashley Larson, auction staff.

Since the start of Masters Car Auction, the largest amount ever money the cars brought in was $107,000, and for those looking to place a bid on a car this Sunday, auction staff say its easier than people think.

“It costs nothing to get a bidder number, you never know what you may or may not go home with,” said Larson.

For those who have been with Motor Magic the longest, seeing the event continue to grow means more to them than the cars themselves.

“It really means a lot to me, and to watch it grow we started in 1998, it was Motor Mania and now it has become Motor Magic,” said Masters.

While the Masters Car auction is a free event, tickets for auto racing and drag racing are $15 for adults and $5 for kids, you can buy tickets at the fairgrounds.
