NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — You can introduce kids to duck hunting during the two-day youth waterfowl weekend.

The weekend is September 14-15, and not only can kids try hunting, but the special veteran and active military personnel waterfowl season is also taking place.

The North Dakota Game and Fish has a virtual duck hunting mentor page that has all the basics like license requirements, regulations, gear recommendations, and tips for finding a place.

Residents and nonresidents youth waterfowl hunters, veterans, and active military must be legally licensed to hunt geese, ducks, coots, and mergansers. A general game and habitat license is also required.

Things to do around town: September 2-8

The daily bag limit and restrictions will be the same as for the regular season, but the additional two blue-winged teal allowed during the first 16 days will not be allowed during the weekend. Hunters should also adhere to early Canada goose regulations when hunting in an open Canada goose zone.

Veterans and active duty military members must have a resident hunting license — it includes a general game and habitat license and a small game license. Hunters 16 and older need to have a federal waterfowl stamp, and those 12 and older need to have passed a certified hunter education course.
