BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Election season is in full swing now that the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris has wrapped up.

All the attention is on the candidates, but North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe wants to recognize the workers that make both the national and local elections run smoothly. He is seeking nominations for the 2024 North Dakota Election Hero Award.

“It takes the dedication of many county auditors, election managers, poll workers, state leaders, election staff, and others to help run North Dakota’s elections,” said Secretary Howe. “The Election Hero Award provides an opportunity to recognize these critical members of our communities who work hard to uphold the integrity of our elections and ensure voters can safely and successfully cast their ballots.”

This award celebrates the election teams, poll workers and policymakers who help administer North Dakota’s elections.

Nominees must meet at least one of the following criteria:

1. Has assisted with an election the last four years
2. Fosters public awareness of election processes
3. Develops/enhances election operations for election workers and voters
4. Promotes secure, fair and open elections
5. Is dedicated to providing customer service and conducting excellent elections
6. Is dedicated to improving election processes through education in the election field
7. Shares accurate information regarding election laws and processes
