NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — While Wyoming takes the top spot when it comes to fatal injuries while at work, North Dakota is a close second.

Experts at Duddy, Goodwin & Pollard analyzed data from a study to find this information.

Wyoming had a staggering 16.64 fatal injuries per 100,000 people from 2020-2022, with a total of 96 actual fatalities.

North Dakota reported 97 fatalities, which is 12.45 per 100,000 people.

South Dakota came in fourth, Montana was fifth, and Minnesota was ranked 35.

Other states include Alaska, Louisiana, Nebraska, West Virginia, Arkansas, and New Mexico, which are all in the top 10.

“The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets standards and regulations to ensure the health and safety of workers across various industries. Unfortunately, some employers ignore these rules, leading to hazardous work conditions and employee injuries — some even fatal,” said Jamie Goodwin, an attorney for Duddy, Goodwin & Pollard. “When employers fail to adhere to OSHA safety standards, they risk the health and well-being of employees, leading to accidents that can often threaten workers’ lives, as this study’s findings show.
