WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — The Williston Fire Department (WFD) joined the Williston Rural Fire Department (WRFD) to put out a wildfire on Friday.

WRFD got to the area of 138th Avenue NW and 53rd St NW around 2:45 p.m., and WFD joined about 10 minutes later.

The wildfire spread quickly to the northeast because of high winds, and was spreading towards an industrial complex located within city limits, as well as a nearby oil field site.

The departments arrived with brush trucks, water tenders, and structural firefighting engines.

The fire was completely contained just before 4 p.m., and crews stayed on scene for overhaul operations and to identify hot spots.

It’s estimated that about 96 acres were burned, but no structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
