DICKINSON, ND ( KXNET ) — A Dickinson man is in custody after allegedly threatening his neighbor with a handgun, which prompted a response from the Southwest Tactical SWAT Team.

According to the Dickinson Police Department, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a call from a man who said another man, later identified as Joshua Russell had broken into his home and pointed a handgun at him. The caller said Russell pushed him to the ground, threatened to kill them, and then went looking in the man’s basement saying he was “searching” for someone before leaving the home.

Officers said Russell lives across the street from the caller. After the Southwest Tactical Team and Southwest Crisis Negotiations Team were activated, a perimeter was established, and contact with the suspect was made shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Russell surrendered to authorities without further incident. Upon obtaining a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, detectives located several firearms, as well as an active marijuana grow.

The suspect is initially being held on charges of Burglary at Night (a Class B Felony), Terrorizing with a Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Trespass of a Dwelling, and Manufacturing a Controlled Substance (all Class C Felonies).

Russell was in Stark County court on Monday afternoon. He’ll be back in court on October 21st.
