BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — More than 100 Korean and Vietnam War veterans from western North Dakota will take an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. at the end of the month.

Honor Flight is a nonprofit that celebrates the country’s veterans by inviting them to spend a day at the nation’s memorials. It has 129 flight hubs across the country, and has taken more than 295,000 veterans to see the memorials.

The 107 veterans will go to the capitol to see the memorials built for their service during the Korean and Vietnam wars. They will also visit the Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, among many other historic sites.

The funds for this flight have been collected through donations from people and businesses, as well as through fundraisers. The experience is provided at no cost to the veterans.

The veterans will depart from the Bismarck Airport the morning of Sept. 29, and will return at 7 p.m. the next day, where they will be greeted with a Welcome Home Event at the airport.
