BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The National Park Service is awarding nearly $1 million to the North Dakota Department of Parks & Recreation for upgrades at Fort Ransom State Park, North Dakota Senator John Hoeven announced today.

The grant gives the state park about $921,000 to upgrade electrical services and install new hydrants at approximately 23 campsites.

“It’s crucial that North Dakotans are able to enjoy the attractions of our state in a secure environment,” said Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources and Appropriations Committees. “This funding from the National Park Service will support our efforts to ensure Fort Ransom State Park provides necessary updates and safety for an improved visitor experience.”

The money comes from the Land and Water Conservation Funds (LWCF), which was established by Congress in 1964 to support the conservation of natural areas, water resources, and outdoor recreation. Its primary source of revenue is the federal oil and gas leases on the Outer Continental Shelf.

In 2020, Hoeven helped advance the Great American Outdoors Act, which ensures that LWCF is fully funded every year.
