MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — On Thursday night, South Prairie takes on Glenburn in varsity volleyball, but the game is not your ordinary volleyball game.

South Prairie will be holding a Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night in honor of Isaac Mathew Louis.

The third grader, who attended South Prairie Elementary, was diagnosed with Pediatric Brain Cancer last August and passed away this past March.

Isaac’s mom and other parents in the South Prairie community decided to come together to put on this event to bring awareness to pediatric cancer.

“People think it’s rare but it’s really not and you don’t notice that until you’re in it. And then you realize that it’s everywhere. Like I know personally six other kids that have medulloblastoma one of which lives in Minot,” said Sam Lauf, Isaac Louis’s mother.

On the rise: Demand for child therapy

According to Lauf, South Prairie will hold a Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night every September during a volleyball game in honor of Isaac.

Lauf says the support she’s received in order to make this event happen, reminded her how much folks of South Prairie really cared about Isaac.

“Just having the community come together and be like ‘hey we see him, we still love him, we still support him, he’s still a part of the Royals family,’ it’s huge, and for them to want to make this an annual thing it just speaks volumes to how this school is such a community,” expressed Lauf.

All donations at the event will go to The Cure Starts Now Foundation in Isaac’s name.
