WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — A woman is facing charges after being caught with methamphetamine, prescription pills, and other drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on the evening of Sunday, September 22.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at approximately 1:15 a.m., a Williston police officer was patrolling around 1st Avenue and 20th Street West when he observed a vehicle traveling with an expired registration.

After stopping the vehicle, it was found to contain a female driver and a male passenger. The passenger was noted to have bloodshot, watery eyes, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage was reportedly emanating from the vehicle.

The officer asked the driver about the expired registration, to which she replied that she did not have her driver’s license on hand, while digging through a grey purse. When asked if there was any methamphetamine or illegal items within the vehicle, the woman immediately denied the idea, and her leg began to shake.

As the officer continued providing a written warning to the suspect, a K9 team was called to the area to sniff in the areas on and around the vehicle. When the police dog responded to a scent, a search of the car was conducted. During the investigation, a pink pouch was located that contained a plastic baggie containing a white, crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, as well as two smoking devices containing residue suspected to be from methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Officers also located the grey purse, which held a homemade plastic smoking device containing more white residue believed to be fentanyl. In addition, the purse contained various used syringes and a bottle of pills suspected to be amphetamine or dextroamphetamine. The suspect did not have a prescription for either medicine at the time of the investigation, and the bottle was inscribed with a name that was not the driver’s.

The suspect in question has a prior offense for Possession of a Controlled Substance, specifically fentanyl, from April of this year. She has since been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in both Subsequent Offense and Schedule II Stimulant categories — both Class C Felonies — and is also facing two counts of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.
