BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The North Dakota Small Business Development Centers (ND SBDC) has given out its most prestigious award for 2024: the State Star.

Nicole Evans, a center director in Grand Forks, received the award for her work as part of the SBDC, which she does on top of being the Hillsboro City Commissioner.

To earn the award, you have to demonstrate your dedication to the success of small businesses in the United States, and demonstrate exemplary performance in doing so.

“I am deeply humbled and proud to be this year’s State Star. This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a reflection of the support and encouragement I’ve received from my team and the broader business community,” Evans said. “I am grateful for this honor and excited to continue contributing to our shared success.”

Evans was raised in a family with small businesses of their own, and she herself is a small business owner. She joined the ND SBDC in 2017, and is an expert in start-up logistics, operations and technology.

Evans and the other State Stars from across the country were celebrated at the annual America’s SBDC conference, which was held in Atlanta this year.

“Nicole was nominated by her peers, which speaks volumes about the respect she has earned within our organization,” Tiffany Ford, ND SVDC state director, said. “Her dedication to the success of small business has left a lasting impact on the small business community. We are fortunate to have her as part of our team, and we look forward to her continued contributions to the success of the ND SBDC and the businesses we serve.”

The SBDC serves as a center for business development and growth across the country. To learn more about North Dakota’s branch, go to its website here .
