MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — One tribe in North Dakota will be getting federal funding to power homes, without electricity.

In Friday’s eye on Ag and Energy, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is one of thirteen tribal nations in the country to be getting money they can put to good use.

The money will be used to close the electricity gap in tribal communities, coming from the Tribal Electrification Program.

Leaders state $71 million dollars will be coming from the Inflation Reduction Act to move forward with the goal of electrifying all homes in the U.S. with clean energy.

The Electrification Program’s final round of funding includes money for transitioning electrified homes to zero emissions energy systems.

The SAGE Development Authority in North and South Dakota will be getting $2 million dollars.
