BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The Bismarck Fire Department was called to action on the evening of Sunday, September 29th, after a structure fire broke out at a home on the 1500 block of Bismarck’s North 15th Street.

According to the department, the fire was reported at approximately 6:09 p.m., and team members arrived on the scene at 6:11 p.m. to find heavy smoke and fire at the rear end of the home. After a quick search of the house, they confirmed that no residents were still inside the structure.

Crews quickly pulled hose lines to the back of the house, and worked to put out a fire they found involving the wooden deck and vinyl wall sliding. Once the blaze was extinguished, firefighters overhauled the scene to find and put out any remaining smoldering materials.

Heavy fire damage was caused to the wood decking and vinyl siding in question, as well as the eve and attic space above the area. Smoke damage throughout the attic was also reported.

An investigation eventually revealed that the fire’s cause was accidental, and involved the disposal of smoking materials into a plastic pail.
