BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Starting early Thursday morning, people lined up waiting for the doors to open, not to check out, but to buy.

The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library opened up to some early ‘book worms’ at seven this morning.

They wanted to be first in line for the Fall Used Book Sale.

Volunteers with the group ‘Friends of the Library’ have sorted the books, as well as puzzles, DVDs, and games.

People can shop around until 8 p.m. on Thursday.

    Books are $1 a pound.

“I think what’s really exciting is every time you open a box of books that’s been donated, you don’t know what you’ll find. And that’s really exciting,” Patty Kuntz with the Friends of the Library said. “And then to sort them out and see that the amount of donations just continue to grow and grow and grow until you can’t take anymore. And then you think, are we going to get enough next time? And we always do.”

The book sale continues both Friday and Saturday.

Organizers say the book sale can raise as much as $20,000, which helps pay for activities and programs at the library.
