MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — A man will now spend 25 years in prison for the murder of 57-year-old Albert Granger. Casey Vollmer was handed down that sentence Monday in a Minot courtroom.

In February, of 2023 officers responded to a report of an assault at a NW Minot hotel.

Officers found Granger, unconscious, outside of the hotel with serious, life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Trinity, where he passed away days later.

Vollmer was then taken into custody and charged with murder.

The prosecution agreed to a shared recommendation for Vollmer’s prison sentence as part of a plea agreement. The judge accepted that recommendation, with Vollmer sentenced to 50 years with 25 of them being suspended. He must serve 85% of that sentence before being eligible for parole.

He also will receive credit for the 599 days he’s already served and must pay $5,900 in restitution for Granger’s funeral expenses.
