    Wildfires: Status updates Oct. 8

    BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Here’s a quick summary of the status of wildfires in western North Dakota, power outages and other related news:

    Bear Den Fire, near Mandaree . Roughly 15,660 acres are involved at last report. Fire officials believe it is at least 20 percent contained as of late Monday. They estimate it will take about two weeks to fully contain the fire.

    Elkhorn Fire near Grassy Butte. Roughly 28,434 acres involved at last report. It is thought to be 50 percent contained, according to North Dakota Geographic Information Services reports.

    Other fires . Blazes near Ray, Tioga, Alamo, Arnegard, Garrison and their surrounding areas are all believed contained or nearly contained at this time.

    Power outages. A little over 300 people remain without power in the Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative service area in Williams County. Nearly 400 power poles have also been damaged and need repair. Crews have been working since the weekend and hope to have everyone back on line by the end of the week.

    Burn restrictions, fire declarations. Nearly all counties in western North Dakota currently have some form of burn restrictions or emergency fire declarations in place. More information can be found here .
