WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — A fire at an apartment complex in Williston around midnight has damaged two apartments, which the Williston Fire Department said can’t be re-occupied at the moment.

The Williston Fire Department was dispatched to the Bakken Heights Apartments on 32nd Street West about half an hour after midnight after someone reported seeing smoke and fire coming from a third-story balcony of the apartment complex.

The WFD activated a 1st Alarm response, which included sending two fire engines, a ladder truck, members of the paid-on-call staff, and command staff.

Crews arrived and observed an evacuation in progress, confirming that fire and smoke were coming from a balcony in the building.

After fighting the fire and making sure everyone had evacuated, they got the fire under control by 12:50 a.m. Initial assessments suggested that the fire originated on an exterior balcony on the third floor of the complex.

One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation on scene and was released without transport. Two occupied apartments could not be re-occupied that night due to fire damage.

The WFD Fire Prevention Division determined the fire to be accidental, and could not rule out smoking as a contributing factor.
