MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — The city of Minot is working as fast as it can to pick up trees knocked over by the recent high winds.

Minot Forestry crews are still busy responding to calls going back to Saturday morning. Crews have been responding to numerous calls for trees landing on vehicles and houses.

“Most of the damage was down in the valley. That is where our older trees are,” said Troy Regstad, City Forester with the Minot Parks District and City of Minot. “Our older trees might have some decay in them, or they might be a little more brittle. They don’t bend as much as newer trees.”

Work still continues as park officials say crews will have to completely remove trees that have suffered too much damage.

“Now we are responding to calls from homeowners calling in and saying, ‘Hey, I have a hanger,’ which is a widowmaker as we call them, hanging up in the tree, so that might fall and hurt someone on the sidewalk. So we are responding to those calls as they come in now,” Regstad said.

Regstad says tree removal is expected to last well into next week.
