WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — The Williston Fire Department has gone out to Mandaree to assist with putting out the “Bear Den” wildfire.

At 3:00 p.m. today, Williston Fire Department’s Brush 1, with a crew of four firefighters, went out to assist the North Dakota Forest Service with wildfire response. They will join other local, state, and federal crews in the fight to put out the blaze, and are expected to be part of the initial attack crew on the incident.

As a state resource, the crew could be dispatched to other incidents throughout North Dakota, and is expected to be deployed for up to 14 days.

Fire danger expected to increase Thursday in western North Dakota

The ND Forest Service made the resource request directly as part of an intergovernmental mutual aid agreement, which allows for resources throughout the state to be quickly ordered and deployed for incidents such as the Mandaree fire.

This is the second time WFD crews have been deployed to combat wildfires as a state resource this year. WFD crews were recently deployed to the “Line Fire” in San Bernardino, California, from September 13th to October 3rd.
