NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — The wellness of pets is on the rise, and yoga is still popular, so it’s no surprise that “doga” or dog yoga has emerged.

This doesn’t just strengthen the bond between an owner and their pet but offers physical and mental health benefits for both.

“Doga provides an excellent opportunity for pet owners to bond with their dogs while enjoying the countless benefits of yoga,” said CEO of The Yogatique , Heather Jacoby. “It enhances flexibility, reduces stress, and promotes relaxation for both humans and their furry friends.”

Jacoby has some insights and tips on how to start your own journey and deepen your connection with your canine companion.

“Doga is a wonderful way to deepen the connection with your pet while reaping the rewards of yoga practice,” Jacoby noted.

    Here are five key benefits:

    • Stress reduction
    • Physical exercise
    • Bonding time
    • Mental stimulation
    • Social interaction

Here are some tips when getting started with Doga.

Start slow, Jacoby advises that it’s crucial to ease your dog into it with simple poses and short sessions.

Use positive reinforcement with treats and praise because it will make the experience more enjoyable.

Be patient because every dog is different, so it might some longer than others. Patience is key.

Create a calm environment that’s quiet or has soothing music. Use soft mats and make sure the area you’re in is safe for your dog to move around in.

Listen to your dog’s body language. Don’t force them into a position that may be uncomfortable for them.

Consult a professional, especially if you’re new. Expert guidance can make sure that you’re doing the poses safely and correctly for both parties involved.

“What sets the experience apart is its capability to enhance the human-animal bond through this shared movement and mindfulness,” Jacoby noted.

While the trend grows, Doga can offer a unique way to practice self-care while also bonding with your furry best friend.
