NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — A statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Ove r enforcement campaign resulted in 371 total citations in less than three weeks.

Law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the campaign from August 16th to September 2nd to deter motorists from driving impaired.

Of the 371 citations issued, there were 43 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests, as well as 15 arrests or citations for minor in consumption, minor in possession, and open container. In North Dakota, alcohol is a factor in about 35% of fatal crashes per year. The state has a goal of zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries, a goal that people can help North Dakota accomplish by taking personal responsibility when getting behind the wheel. This means always wearing a seat belt, using appropriate child passenger safety seats, driving without distractions, driving sober or finding someone else to drive, and obeying the speed limit.

This enforcement campaign is part of a collaborative effort to eliminate vehicle deaths in North Dakota. Learn more about safety initiatives at VisionZero.ND.gov . View memorials of individuals who lost their life due to an impaired driver on the North Dakota Crash Memorial Wall .
