MINOT, N.D. ( KXNET ) — It was a close call for K9 Caspian. But thanks to one veteran, his life was saved and an important lesson was learned.

Caspian is a member of the Minot Police Department’s K9 Unit.

Minot police say that during a search operation, Caspian suffered chemical burns.

However, SSG. Sally Dolenc, a United States Army vet tech, was on hand. Dolenc was able to provide lifesaving medical care, so Caspian avoided any “serious harm.”

Dolenc also trained all of Minot police’s K9 handlers in how to provide this kind of medical care to their furry companions when needed.

Minot police thanked Dolenc for her selflessness and dedication to not only Caspian but the K9 unit as a whole.
