MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — A Minot woman is now being sent to prison after admitting to fatally poisoning her long-term boyfriend with antifreeze.

48-year-old Ina Kenoyer was sentenced to 25 years behind bars, Wednesday. Kenoyer showed no emotion as the family of the man she killed, Steven Riley, gave victim impact statements.

“As so many other families of victims often feel, the punishment should fit the crime. But lucky for you the Department of Corrections doesn’t serve antifreeze in your iced tea,” said Stephanie Gonzalez, Steven Riley’s Sister. “My opinion of you from what you did to my brother, is that you are ironically an exact reflection of the home that you kept and lived in. Vile, filthy, disgusting, embarrassing, gross, full of feces, and pure trash.”

According to court documents, Riley and Kenoyer both believed he would be receiving a $30 M inheritance in the weeks leading up to his death on September 4, 2023. Police said Kenoyer was poisoning Riley’s drinks because she thought North Dakota recognized common law marriage, making her the recipient of that money, if Riley died.

Investigators say they don’t believe that inheritance was ever real.

The coroner’s report shows Riley’s cause of death as ethylene glycol poisoning, which is a common ingredient in antifreeze.

Kenoyer pleaded guilty to the murder earlier this year agreeing to the sentence of 50 years, first serving 25, with the other 25 suspended. She chose not to make a statement at her sentencing today.

She’s also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised probation if and when she’s released, and to pay restitution to Riley’s family.

Should be life for a life….. Unfortunate we do not have capital punishment. Would save taxpayers 10s of millions of dollars.
