WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — This week, the Williston Police Department shared an important reminder — it’s always a good time to move over!

Whether you see flashing lights or hear sirens, Williston police says it’s important for us to know what to do when we spot an emergency vehicle.

Moving over can take many forms. The best thing to do, though, is to slow down, signal, and move over to your right.

If you can’t pull over, stop wherever you are until the emergency vehicle has passed.

If you’ve got your favorite playlist on full blast, make sure it’s not too loud that you can’t hear sirens, or it distracts from your surroundings.

And remember — never try to tail or out-run an emergency vehicle. Moving over isn’t just common courtesy — it’s the law!
