NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — Thousands of North Dakotans own guns, but you can’t take them just anywhere.

You might remember that back in March of 2017 Governor Doug Burgum signed a constitutional carry bill into law.

The bill gave people the ability to carry a concealed handgun if they possess a valid North Dakota driver’s license or state ID card for at least a year.

But some people might forget there are restrictions to this bill which include places of worship, gaming sites, and liquor stores.

Police officers urge citizens to pay attention to where firearms are allowed and to respect all firearms policies regardless of establishment.

“There are private businesses that are open to the public. Those private businesses can still restrict what you can and cannot bring onto their property. So I believe it’s out at the mall, there’s signs that say no weapons, no firearms, things like that. So you’re not permitted to bring firearms in there,” said Lt. Shawn Wegner, the patrol supervisor for the Minot Police Department.
