TxDOT assessing damage after construction vehicle hits overpass in Bastrop County

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A construction vehicle being transported on Eastbound US 290 in Bastrop County struck the State Highway 21 bridge over US 290 Wednesday afternoon, forcing emergency officials to close the main lanes of 290 for cleanup and bridge inspection.

“The SH 21 bridge over US 290 in Paige was stuck [Wednesday] afternoon. TxDOT crews will inspect the bridge. In the meantime, eastbound lanes of US 290 are closed as is the SH 21 bridge,” a Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson said.

The bridge is expected to remain closed until permanent repairs can be made; however, eastbound US 290 should reopen by the end of the day on Thursday.

Drivers should follow all signs and instructions from TxDOT crews, the agency said.
