AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Trail of Lights Fun Run returns to Zilker Park on Dec. 7, event organizers announced Wednesday.

The two-mile untimed course weaves from the Zilker Holiday Tree through Zilker Park and the Austin Trail of Lights. This year’s fun run marks the 13th year of the festive tradition, officials added in the release.

The Austin Trail of Lights organizers are also collaborating with Chuy’s — the event’s title sponsor — on its Chuy’s Children Giving to Children Toy Drive. Community members participating in the fun run are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the drive at the event or at Chuy’s locations through early December. Those wishing to give monetary donations can do so online .

The monetary and toy donations benefit Operation Blue Santa, a nonprofit that provides local families in need with toys and food during the holiday season.

Registration for the event begins at $30, with participants receiving a fun run t-shirt, a race bib, complimentary beer or hot cocoa and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The fun run culminates with a finish line festival that will include rides, food trucks, bars and music.

The run is held in multiple waves that begin at 5:45 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. More details on the community run are available online .
