PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — A child died Saturday morning in Pflugerville after a possible drowning in an apartment complex pool, according to the Pflugerville Police Department

PPD said officers responded to the 1000 block of South Heatherwilde Boulevard at approximately 8:30 a.m. for a report of a possible drowning involving a child.

Officers found a bystander “engaging in life-saving measures,” which were taken over by police until medics arrived, according to PPD.

The child was taken to the hospital but later died.

So far in 2024, there have been 72 child deaths related to drowning in Texas , according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

“Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death for kids under the age of five and toddlers are especially at risk,” the department said. “And, drowning can happen in almost any amount of water, indoors or outdoors.”
