AUSTIN (KXAN) — The newest outlook for September’s weather from the Climate Prediction Center paints an optimistic picture in the rainfall department after a drier than normal August, despite some showers on the final days of the month.
The temperature outlook for September is warmer than normal for almost all of Texas and about half of the Continental United States.
Odds of wetter than normal weather returning in September are looking more promising. Most of Texas is leaning wetter than normal with the highest odds of bonus rain coming in West Texas.
This latest rainfall outlook runs contrary to the September outlook that was released in mid-August, which had near normal rainfall expectations here and a drier than normal forecast to our west.
In-Depth: How did August turn out compared to the forecast?
August, 2024, ended up drier than normal and warmer than normal. The July 31, 2024 (final) forecast from the Climate Prediction Center expected “near normal” rainfall for Austin, with warmer than normal temperatures.
