KXAN is working to reach out to an attorney representing Olvera to request a comment. We will update this story when we receive a response.

The shooting happened on Wednesday, June 26 in the 2300 block of South Pleasant Valley Road, near the intersection of Willow Hill Drive.

APD said multiple calls came in at approximately 11:30 p.m. regarding several shots being fired and people screaming.

Three victims were on the scene when police arrived. One of them was pronounced dead on the scene, and another died at a hospital. The third victim had non-life-threatening injuries, according to APD.

Police identified the victims as Ricardo Martinez, 39, and Aldo Edgar Romero-Milan, 30.

    What led to the shooting

An arrest warrant affidavit said the incident began after a witness told police he was with Martinez, who parked his vehicle in the cul-de-sac on Sheringham Drive, which is a road off South Pleasant Valley Drive. That area is near a homeless camp, according to the affidavit.

When the witness and Martinez were getting ready to leave the cul-de-sac, the witness said the third victim came out from the homeless camp with a machete and put it to Romero-Milan’s neck, court records said. The witness told the third victim to put the machete down, and that is when Olvera was also seen in the cul-de-sac and was seen pulling out a handgun before pointing it at the witness, according to the affidavit.

Officers interviewed the third victim, who told police he felt he was the “intended target” in the shooting, according to the affidavit.

Court records said Olvera fired a shot at the witness but missed, and then he shot Martinez. Then, when Romero-Milan stood up, he was also shot by Olvera, according to the affidavit. During that time, the third victim was also shot but ran away, court records said.
