Instant Analysis: How the Texas Longhorns tore Michigan’s vaunted defense apart

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns scored on four consecutive possessions in the first half and ran away with a 31-12 win over No. 10 Michigan on Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns while tight end Gunnar Helm had a career game with 989 receiving yards on seven catches, including a 21-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter.

The Longhorns converted 10 of 16 third-down plays and limited the Wolverines to three conversions in 12 tries. Texas ran 12 more plays than Michigan and the Wolverines averaged just six plays per drive. The Longhorns scored touchdowns on 40% of their drives with an average starting field position of their own 42-yard line. Michigan started on its 23-yard line on average.

Texas forced three turnovers and didn’t commit any, moving their turnover margin for the season to plus-4. Andrew Mukuba and Derek Williams had interceptions and Jahdae Barron recovered a fumble.
