AUSTIN (KXAN) — Chief Lisa Davis officially started as Austin’s newest top cop this week. She comes to Texas following a long tenure with the Cincinnati Police Department, where she last held an assistant chief role.

According to an internal memo sent from Davis to members of the Austin Police Department, Robin Henderson – who has served as interim chief since former chief Joseph Chacon retired last year – will resume her prior role as chief of staff to assist with Davis’ transition. She will take on the role until she plans to retire later this year.

“Chief Henderson’s leadership, experience, and deep knowledge of our department will be invaluable during this important time,” Chief Davis said in the email obtained by KXAN.

The memo also stated Assistant Chief Jeff Greenwalt, who stepped into the chief of staff role when Henderson became interim chief, will continue to serve as assistant chief for the time being.

Davis has already delivered her first press conference as chief after officers shot and killed a man in north Austin Tuesday night.

While Davis has started work, the department said she is still awaiting her TCOLE license, so she has not been sworn in yet. A swear-in date has not been made public yet.

There’s a ton of reasons why she didn’t get the job permanently. Retire her sorry ass already
