Officials detected a gas leak near the intersection of 20th Street and University Avenue early Thursday afternoon, adding construction in the area caused the leak. UTPD and the Austin Fire Department responded to the incident, with UTPD officers directing traffic near the intersection.

UTPD asked people to avoid the area, adding in a final update Thursday afternoon University Avenue will “likely remain closed to traffic through the night.” However, pedestrians can still use the sidewalks in the meantime.
