LLANO, Texas (KXAN) — One person was placed in custody after making threats on social media, according to the Llano Independent School District.

A letter from LISD Superintendent Mac Edwards said the arrest was not made in Llano County, nor was it made by LISD PD. Edwards said in the letter there could be more arrests as the investigation continues.

The district said there will be an increased law enforcement presence on campuses Friday due to the incident. The school district also had an increased police presence Thursday, after it was made aware of school shooting threats made Wednesday.

The letter from Edwards said additional law enforcement would be present at the football game Friday versus Marble Falls.

The circulation of social media threats began Wednesday after those threats were made via Snapchat, the letter from Edwards said. Those threats were reported to students, parents and staff. the LISD Police Department began investigating the incident “immediately,” the district said.

Additionally, the Llano Police Department, Texas Rangers, DPS Criminal Investigations Divisions and the Llano County Sheriff’s Office all worked in conjunction to investigate the Snapchat threat, Edwards said in the letter.

That investigation determined the “threat was not credible for the Llano ISD campuses and that school would proceed as normal on Thursday,” the letter said.

By Thursday, the district acknowledged the “alleged threat” was happening across the state and said a person from East Texas was arrested for the threat that “caused widespread panic across many districts.”

One of those threats led to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office detaining three sixth-grade students for contributing to the spread of social media school shooting threats, according to Hays CISD.
