Teen accused in deadly shooting in Bastrop County

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 13-year-old boy is accused of being involved in a deadly shooting Friday in western Bastrop County, Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook confirmed to KXAN.

The sheriff said the victim, identified as Steven A. Smith, 41, was shot and died from a gunshot wound.

The teen was “released to juvenile authorities,” the sheriff said. Cook added that the investigation is ongoing.

“Since there is a juvenile involved we are limited on the information we can provide,” Cook said.
