ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — The City of Round Rock will break ground on major changes to Old Settlers Park on Monday morning.

The improvements include an overhaul of the existing Lakeview Pavilion, upgrades to the crossings on Harrell Parkway and expansions to the multi-purpose complex, the city said.

Work will start on the Lakeview event area, and then move on to the Harrell Parkway improvements, according to a city release. Later this year, construction will begin on new pickleball and tennis courts within the Adult Recreation Complex.

The new recreation center and multi-purpose complex expansions will begin in the summer and fall of 2025, according to the city. Additional expansions to the Rock’N River waterpark will take place in winter 2025, during its off-season.

Round Rock voters approve biggest bond package in city history

Voters approved these changes in spring 2023 as part of a larger bond to improve local parks and recreational spaces across the city, with $230 million allotted for the projects. The city will also remodel the Clay Madsen Recreation Center, build a new park on Brushy Creek in the downtown area, expand the sports center and improve the Play for All Park.

The official groundbreaking will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 30 at 1301 Harrell Parkway on the west side of the park. Mayor Craig Morgan will give remarks, accompanied by former Mayor Charlie Culpepper and local sportscaster Dennis De la Peña.

A full list of the changes can be found on the city’s website.
