AUSTIN (KXAN)— The American Red Cross of Central and South Texas put out a call on Monday, saying it is desperate for shelter volunteers to help with Hurricane Helene relief.

Those who are willing to help out must go through training and can plan to be deployed for up to two weeks once that’s complete.

How to help victims of Hurricane Helene

“As of Monday, more than 900 Red Cross disasters responders are on the ground across 10 states devastated by Hurricane Helene in the Southeast, including hard-hit North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida,” the Red Cross said.

Officials said training will be fast-paced, due to needing to get volunteers on the ground as soon as possible. According to the Red Cross, on Sunday night, more than 2,600 people stayed in 69 of its emergency shelters.

If you’re interested in helping out, you can sign up to volunteer on the Red Cross’ website .
